The purpose of this course is to reflect on the current work environment, identify opportunities for improvements, and learn ways to promote a healthy workplace.

Participants will gain knowledge through improved communication, an environment that fosters inclusion and mutual support, and examine evidence-based practices that are within the control of the bedside nurse with the support of strong, caring nursing leadership.

Outcome Objectives

Upon completion of this learning activity, participants will:

1. Report increased knowledge in techniques that improve work relationships to foster an improved working environment.
2. Report their intent to change their practice to include techniques that improve interpersonal wellness and mutual support

Ecoee believes that nurses should work to the full scope of their practice, supported by strong and compassionate leaders, healthy work environments, and using evidence-based, standardized nursing practice.  She identifies what she refers to as “the heart failure of healthcare” as the unaddressed and unmitigated work stress that results in compassion fatigue, decreased engagement, and variations in quality and outcomes.  She is a locally, regionally, and nationally sought-after speaker on topics including leadership, healthy work environments, compassion fatigue, vulnerable populations, and was most recently selected to present a workshop on Recovering from Conflict and Trauma for a group of Syrian visitors here through the International Visitor Leadership Program through the U.S. Department of State by World Learning, in New Orleans, LA.

Ecoee holds her Doctor of Nursing Practice Student from Southeastern Louisiana University, a Master of Science in Nursing Degree from Loyola University New Orleans, a Bachelor of Arts in Communications and Women's Studies from Loyola University New Orleans and an Associate Degree in Nursing from the Delgado Charity School of Nursing. 

Ecoee worked with victims of crime from 2000-2013 in the role of Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (Adult/Adolescent), with victims of trauma since 1999 as an Emergency Department Nurse and with people with disabilities from 1996-2009. She has worked in Nursing Professional Development since 2002, and has served in a nursing leadership role since 2003.

Ecoee served as the Chair for the Rape Crisis Network of New Orleans from 2005 - 2007 and was instrumental in serving to reconnect and rebuild sexual assault forensic services and networks in New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina. She served as the Statewide Coordinator for SANE in 2007 and was selected as a host for the first Regional SANE Statewide Coordinators Meeting, a project supported by the National Sexual Violence Resource Center. Ecoee created the first annual Louisiana SANE Conference, providing continuing nursing education for regional SANEs featuring nationally known speakers in 2005.  She has been a member of the American Nurses Association since 1999.  She has been a member of the Association of Nurses in Professional Development since 2003.  She has been a member of the International Association of Forensic Nurses since 2000 and has served in numerous roles supporting the organization from Awards Committee Chair, webinar speaker, and consultant.

Accreditation Statement: The Foundation for Care Management is an approved provider of continuing nursing education by the Western Multi-State Division (WMSD), Approver of Continuing Nursing Education an accredited approver by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission (ANCC) on Accreditation.

Method of Participation/Criteria for Success

To receive CME/CE credits, participants must review the program materials in their entirety and complete the online post examination and evaluation with a score of 70% or better. A statement of credit will be available for printing upon successful completion.
